Not much left to do except some tidying up of the old premises, the kit that’s left behind will have to be inventoried. However there have been some major changes over the past few days, the bulk of the move went very well – the whole thing actually went off in just a few hours once it all started. But there have since been some major changes after the relocation, the permanent member of staff that I worked with for much of the project has resigned and left the offices all within half an hour.
Although I have really only been exposed to his side of the story, some other things that have happened give a good indication of the strength of personal feelings and the internal politics involved. Still I think my feelings were well explained today when I was asked which hat I was wearing, I replied “The same one as the Captain of the Titanic” – the look on the questioners face indicated to me that it was probably the correct answer.
So what tasks do I have left, well I now have to clear the old building. The vast bulk of the stuff will end up in the skip, some will go to Computers for Africa where it will be put to good use. Although the contents of the offices that are being shut are old they are for the most part fully serviceable, but the cost of disposal or a managed solution is quite high – but in reality lower than any of the other options.
Still I’ll miss working with me now ex-colleague, the loss of his detailed knowledge will be painful.
