Not working from a beach in Brazil this week!

Tomorrow is the live day, it will probably go not too badly – although it will be busy. All the equipment has been relocated, it’s pretty well installed on all the desks. There are a few special setups to be tested and all the folks that use laptops will need to have some testing done, but other than that it’s all over bar the shouting. There were a few delays, but then there always are. My European colleagues managed to introduce some delays, but all in all it went pretty well.

As this project moved closer to completion there were several risks that had to be mitigated, I thought that I had covered nearly all the exposure that we had to risk – however having new risks introduced during the actual relocation process wasn’t expected. The team who did the equipment relocation were from Technimove and I must say the team that they sent were first class, I would definitely use them again – it would seem that the biggest gripe was the fact that the small boxes they ordered were too small. Even although the business that I was relocating was advised what size they were, make a mental note for the future to provide samples if possible. As it would seem that providing dimensions was insufficient information, still it wen’t as well as can be expected.

There were only a few things that got up my nose, having an office opening ceremony on the day we moved into the new office – not the best thought out plan. Sealing the boxes with anti-tamper tape, may lead to a cleaning charge for the boxes – we’ll just have to wait and see on that front. What is still outstanding, well the Vodafone cock up has had a temporary resolution which has at least left us with working phones. We relocated more tin than I wanted to, but there may be a chance of a bit more work as they may want me to reduce the foot print further.

I managed to keep my cool for the most part, I refrained from reaching for “la râpe à fromage” although it was very tempting at some points during the exercise. Anyway a big thumbs up to the server relocation people, especially Richard – I’d probably have killed some of my colleagues if it hadn’t been for him.
