Well I was in the office before seven this morning, hardly another Muppet in sight when I arrived. I started on my deployment of the security scripts, all was going well and continued to do so for almost an hour. Then the first problem arrived along with the first Muppet – our Chef – you all know him, the Swedish chap who had managed to lose the recipe for fried eggs. It would seem that he doesn’t bring his recipe book with him on a Saturday, however after some delicate negotiations it was determined that it is somewhat unusual to serve “Crispy Fried Eggs” and more suitable ones were substituted.

Having procured breakfast I returned to my play pen and continued with the deployment of the scripts, all was well in the mechanical garden I thought to myself. Then the first of the days systems problems popped out of nowhere, the Oracle upgrades on one of the other systems had been delayed as the backups hadn’t completed on time – they took an hour longer than expected. The project manager called me and asked if I could make the system go any faster, the answer wasn’t really what he wanted to hear – but we reniced the process and it probably didn’t make any difference.

By lunch time we were nearly three hours behind with the Oracle upgrade, when I asked what the script provided by Oracle did – I was a little surprised to find out that the Database Administrators didn’t actually know what was being done to their databases. Still it was at least doing something, I continued with my work and the Oracle upgrades continued. I left the office at lunchtime and visited a friend for coffee returning some two hours later, my work was on schedule – the Oracle upgrade wasn’t. The day finished without any further contact with Muppet’s (I wonder where they all went today), I bailed out the office at 7PM and went back to my digs. All in all a successful day I thought, still waiting on the news on the Oracle upgrade…….
