Today was quite interesting, I had to engage with four potential employees. In as much as I had to carry out the pre-screening interviews, my original thoughts on these interviews was that I would recommend which ones were suitable for face to face interview. As it turned out these were the candidates already selected for face to face interview, on a really busy day a good use of my time I thought – especially as the decision to interview had already been made.
Anyway all the candidates seem to be suitable for further interview, well from first impressions anyway. But I think that the information could have been passed on, it would probably have changed the context of the interview. Still I’m getting a bit more used to the way that people work at this company, so this shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise to me.
Looking objectively at the interview process I’m not sure that I’ve done the right thing by these potential employee’s, I’m doubtful if the job will exist in a years time. It certainly won’t exist in it’s current guise and if the operation carries on, it is possible that the local support function could be out sourced to a small support company. So it may be that the candidates that don’t get the job will be the lucky ones.
On the plus side today I might actually have fixed something, of course I might not have fixed anything and may just be getting delusional. I’m just not sure any more, this is partly due to the inconsistent way that the users report faults. Any way I’ve got some equipment to move back to the old premises where it will go for destruction and there is some equipment to move to the new premises for use as spares – the end of this contract could actually be in sight.
