There are only four days left till the move, yesterday I resolved a problem with setting a global zone “hostid” in Solaris. Quite elegantly I thought and today I wasted half a day trying to work out what licenses I could run in a Solaris 11 virtual machine, without an actual resolution to the problem. At times I feel like I have to unpick years of undocumented crap, but then I see the logic in something. With the license manager problem I seem to have found that the whole thing is dependent on the local knowledge of just one person, these license machines are likely to be a major problem if there isn’t a quick resolution to running the stuff on an x86 virtual.
So tomorrow morning there will be a meeting to ensure that the whole relocation process is where it is meant to be, for the most part it is – at the moment only the documentation is seriously behind. There are not really any show stoppers, where we have an issue is the feedback from people in the office. A request for information has caused major problems for me, today I found out that the same request has been outstanding for a long time – made by one of my predecessors to the same person.
Still I think we’ll eventually get there with this process, I have to really get the finger out over the next couple of days though.
