Ooooh that's a surprise!

It’s only been a matter of weeks since the move to the European Data Centre was pronounced a massive success, everyone was pleased with the final outcome of the project. Mostly on time, mostly within budget, mostly complete and finally mostly everything worked. So it did come as a little surprise when after just a short time it was intimated that not every one was mostly happy. So what is the problem with all the work we did – well in truth there was no problem, other than the revised costs – it would seem that it is too expensive to keep the equipment at it’s new location. This was mostly decided by the customer, I might add the only customer (eggs and baskets come to mind here).

In order that we are able to pacify this customer there were many additional problems dealt with – none of them brought in any additional money as far as I can see. But the customer (miserable as they are), is used to just the old way of doing things. As an example in order too keep the customer sweet, additional resource has been given to an important issue – this should have been given a place in the standard work queue and the customer should have been charged. Still one of the good things that came over was the need to evaluate the position that we now find ourselves in, we decided to call in consultants to have a look at what was the best thing to do in order to reduce our costs. It was just as well that they were unbiased, option number three for saving money was too outsource – by the way does anyone know what Acceture’s main business is?

Still the next thing we have to consider is the way forward for our Solaris systems, can we stay where we are – probably not! But to move forward we’ll have to look at the options open to us, these all depend on what other companies do – good or bad we’ll probably be swept along with it. Still I didn’t have much to do tonight and thought that it was a pretty good time to panic, did anyone else panic along with me – nah! Anyway tomorrow I’m working in an other location, well I’ll be there and trying to get some work completed – if that’s the same thing. Of course I might just decide to panic as it seems to be the best thing to do and I just hate to be left out!
