Well back into the swing of things, after two weeks in San Francisco I’m back in the office. First task, work through the 1832 emails that are in my inbox. There was a broad selection of mails, but most of them were still just the usual crap. The holiday is just a distant memory now, it’s back to the daily grind. The moving of the servers to Europe and the virtualisation of said servers is moving forward at an ever increasing pace.
I expect that we are going to complete the project more or less on time, when all is said and done the work for this project has been really interesting. It’s not very often that you get to move the complete infrastructure of a major company from several data centres to a single data centre upgrading the hardware, operating system and applications as you go. I said at the beginning of this project that the task was almost impossible, but thanks to the effort put in by the staff it does look like the deadlines will be met.
It is likely that some time in the New Year the contractors that were taken on for the project will be let go, so I guess that I’ll be back in the market place looking for a new contract. Still that is the nature of the game, however there have been valuable additions to the skill set picked up during the work.
