It was a lonely morning in the office, there were other people in, but the office is so large that the other people were miles away or so it seemed. Add that to the fact that the catering staff that they employ in the building on a Saturday are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and you’re starting to get the picture, well after a couple of coffees and a couple of teas I decided to risk a roll – believe me after the last time I risked this it was a brave decision. In retrospect it was actually foolhardy and almost suicidal, not that I’m one to complain about food. But I don’t know how it is possible to get Bacon that is more fat than meat, hash browns that look like burnt pureed potato and sausages that look to have beenused for bayonet practice. If you think that I’m being unreasonable then you should come and sample the gourmet delights of our canteen at the weekend, you will probably accuse me of exaggerating the quality of the food. This isn’t me just having a moan about the food, up until a few weeks ago it was really good. Then the head chef that had been sent to us to solve the problems left, just about as soon as he went out the door the problems returned.
Still I managed to get quite a bit done in the office, without causing too many problems – that was probably because there was no one to argue with. I started to compose an email of thanks to my European colleagues, as I don’t suppose that they will get one from the management any time soon. I’m sure that they will have a lot more to do before this project is over, so I would like to keep them on board – I’m not sure that they would wish to come back and work here for any length of time on a business level but on a personal level I feel that we connected really well.
Still back to the original theme of the post, I like working at the weekend as I can achieve a lot. However there is none of the normal office banter, when there are no colleagues there and the trips down to the deli are on your own. It’s especially difficult when you know that a Latte will in fact be a half Latte – not even a good one at that.
