When a rotary carpet cleaning machine meets a fiber cable, there can only be one outcome – and it’s not a pretty one. Invariably the fiber cable is the loser, I had pointed out that this may be the reason that some of the equipment wasn’t working properly.

Hah! I told you so......
The cable was wrapped round the rotary head and there were obvious signs of damage, did I have a spare that could be borrowed – well as luck would have it I did! Could I be prevailed upon to deliver it – well at 120 miles each way no was the answer, a meet was arranged half way and the cable changed hands. Problem solved for my mate, the cleaners on the other hand were likely to end up out of pocket and favour. It seems that they were not supposed to be in that area of the office, especially with a machine that could do so much damage.

I pointed out to my mate that perhaps the cable also shouldn’t have been in that part of the office, there was a mumbled agreement but there were also mitigating circumstances. The cable was only routed that way as a temporary measure, just until the refurbishment was done. I recalled from a previous conversation the the said refurbishment had been cancelled and asked if it was back on the cards, the answer was no – “so this is the refurbishment that was cancelled three years ago then?” I asked. My mates expression said it all, still given that the cable just ran along the edge of the floor through that corridor it’s amazing that it survived as long as it did I suppose.
