Sometimes Life is Difficult!

When you work in IT and the users of your systems are mainly a bunch of Muppets, it’s all too easy to fall into the same category as the users. Take the picture on the left, this was actually placed in a prominent location as the users were unsure of the sequence of the weeks in question.

Now not wanting to be to unkind about the users, I think that it was put up in response to a specific incident where there had been a cockup made. But it did remain in place for over ten years, indicating that there were learning problem for some of the staff. When there are problems in the computer world we have several skilled systems admins, however things don’t always go the way that you expect and sometimes the things that the systems admins say don’t give you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Following are some of the more interesting things that systems admins have said over the years;

I hate it when that happens.

… and after I patched the microcode …

Nobody was using that file /vmunix, were they?

There are lot’s of other things that have been said by systems admins, some much worse than the above. But these are some of the ones that I think are quite humerous, nobody said them today but I’m sure that someone in the team thought about it – I know that I did.
