Well maybe it's an intelligent potato!
So here we are an other DR test in the offing, Monday run a quick DR test – Tuesday deliver two new environments on the European servers one production and one development. What will I be doing for the rest of the week, well Wednesday a quick trip to the Birmingham area to cover of some security aspects of the job, Thursday not really sure as the work seems to be a bit fluid at the moment and Friday the same. So there we have the up and coming week, what will happen when I actually get to the office may in fact be completely different.

Now the last week has been spent working from home, mainly due to the fact that my car completely let go in the gearbox department. In fact it has let go to the tune of 1,240.00 pounds, leaving me short of drinking vouchers this month. Now not that I’m one to complain but I’m buggered if I’ll pay this kind of money to have things repaird unless I’m going to get value for money. Now the person that is going to repair the car is called “Karaoke Dave” which obviously inspires confidence, is supposed to be a really good auto transmission engineer – I hope it’s better that his choice of 70’s music!

So as far as the DR test goes I’m almost ready – or thought I was until I tried to do the last bit. The final creation of the mirrors failed as the original zpool on the server was set to 50Gb although the data in it only comes to around 12 Gb, the disk partition that I have to mirror it up is only 30 Gb – so looks like some juggling will be required tomorrow. The zpool was set up by one of our seasoned SA’s but I’m not sure what one, so I may have to create a new zpool. Send it a snapshot and export the old pool, then import the new pool as the old pool name – see easy if you have the reasoning ability of a potato!
