I know I said that but it's not what I meant!
I’ve changed the look of the site to the Red for Stupidity look, in anticipation of our pending go live next Monday. The chances are that it will all go OK, however there is a nagging doubt in the back of my mind. I can’t put my finger on anything that would lead me to think that it will not be a success, but I still have this feeling of uncertanty about the whole thing.

I finally managed to write my generic script for the system in only 450 lines of code, I have tested it in the test environment and tomorrow I’ll be testing it in the new live environment. If that goes well – not that I’m expecting anything else, I’ll probably feel a little better. But we are still experiencing communications problems, these seem to revolve around someone saying one thing and actually meaning something else. The task at hand is quite simple (or it should be), take an interlinked group of applications and move them from a server (domain) in the UK and move them to a server (domain) in Europe.

Anyone can tell you that the unexpected can bite you in the backside, that’s because it’s unexpected. the problem could be impossible to anticipate, yet the personal assassination emails will be issued if things go wrong for any reason. I feel that, that is exactly where we are in this first and most important part of the project. We are left with little room for maneuver on the actual go live weekend, also this system has very specific SLA’s leaving us little time to implement a fix on fail policy.

In some respects I feel that the project has been managed in a very poor way, the project management people are arrogantto the extreme. Not very knowledgeable, some people would argue that they don’t have to be. But if you are working with a bunch of Muppets it’s sometimes handy if you are on an intellectual par with them.

On a more interesting note, as I had to travel away from the digs this morning and as I’d had a couple of small libations last night the old Tape Worm was giving me a dig with his tusk this morning. So the intake of food went like this:-

05:30 – Early Breakfast – Deviled Kidneys on Toast.

08:30 – Second Breakfast – Full English with Toast.

10:30 – Pre Elevenses – A Twix bar with Coffee.

11:00 – Elevenses – Coffee and a breath of fresh air.

13:00 – Lunch – Vegetable Curry.

15:00 – Tiffin – Coffee and Sultana Cake.

18:30 – Something to Eat – Home made Mushroom Soup and Chicken casserole.

22:00 – Thinking about a carry out after an other small libation.

At least the tape worm is happy!
