Today I went to the new offices, although there was more traffic than I expected it still only took 20 minutes. There were loads of people busy installing equipment relocated from the old offices, the place was a hive of industry. I did the couple of checks that I had to do and started the security scans to check the external security checks there are only a few of the internal checks to do on a few of the servers.
The new offices are very well appointed, with all the bells and whistles that you could wish for. In line with most offices built recently there are luxuries that would not have been possible in the old city centre offices, there are also perks in the new offices, the canteen will be open for much longer hours than the old office. There are screens around the building in breakout areas which will continually air Sky News, there may be other benefits as yet unknown.
But in the end it all comes down to the people, there have been grumbles for a while about the distances involved. I’ve been told about some other grumbles, like some people have asked for a longer break as the canteen is further away. The gym is too small, the land that the company owns around the new building should be turned into allotments. Presumably they will want to grow an other form of the hallucinogen that they have been smoking, one with less pronounced effects, one that may allowed some reasoned thoughts.
Still this is my new place of work, the bulk of the people are great. Although there is still the odd one that has been endowed with the charm of a half eaten Mars bar, they are the tiniest part of the business. Roll on Monday – It’s a brave new world for the masses.
