The guys that are actually doing the work!

Well things are starting to move, I’m about to finish at a major utility company. What fun it is, today’s find was a real gem. A critical system which was only partially under maintenance, hadn’t been properly backed up since 01/04/2006 – a paltry 12 Years ago. The best thing about it was that the person responsible for the system had decided that the risks were acceptable, this person is not a newbie – they’ve got thirty years of experience in the IT industry.  So there is obviously hope for me, I mean I know that I don’t need backups because my systems never have a failure.

On a personal note, there has been an incident where I was sent a photograph. The photograph is actually a quite stunning image taken at Renfrew during WWII, the problem is that the good old Google right click identified the original image. The unsolicited image that I had been sent had had all copyright information removed, when I pointed this out there was no response – even though I pointed out that it was unlawful to do this. I think that it is a bit rich actually as in the email trail before I was sent the image, I had been asked by the very same person to remove images which I had permission to post. Why? because there was a chance that they could be stolen and this person was probably going to use them in a book due to be published soon. In essence it seems that it’s one rule for him and a different set of rules for everyone else.

The image, posted below with copyright I’m sure that you’ll agree it’s a great image. I wish I could post the email trail and you could see the altered image, that and the email addresses of the dozen or so people who seem to condone the theft of intellectual property.
