So getting back to the old how to disappear in this modern day. I haven’t given up with this, I just haven’t had much time to focus on it. I’ve been thinking about the problem and the more I think about it the more I realise how difficult it will actually be. There are certain things that will make you very visible, our modern life style makes that inevitable. The first and most obvious is the Electoral Register, available for a fairly modest fee and it actually has some useful data on it – opting out only applies to marketing companies.
Do you have a Passport or a Driving License, well there is a picture of you on record as well – so much for the Day of the Jackal idea then. Currently you could probably establish a new identity fairly easily and at not a great cost, but that opportunity won’t last very long as with bigger and more powerful computers and “Big Data” you’ll be easy to find. I’m not suggesting that you would want to do anything nefarious, but you might just want to disappear and it’s bloody difficult without a lot of planning and who does that!
However, there is a quick start method that is pretty straight forward. You have to be a little open to being deceitful, but you can establish a new identity fairly quickly and acquire enough of the required documentation pretty quickly. You’ll have to bear with me on this one and I’ll explain, it’s all pretty simple really. Although there are a number of costs that will have to be borne, it all depends on how convenient or desirable it is to drop out of site or more improtantly become someone else. Here is the basic process, you’ll have to tailor to suit – remember how much it will cost.
What will I have to do you ask, well actually not very much. You want to establish a new identity, one that will allow you to function as normal. You still need to earn a living, pay bills, get around and do all the normal things that people do. The main consideration is – just how much do you want to disappear, or be visible as someone else.
OK, here we go – remember we’re going to establish a new identity.
- You’ll need a postal address, so a short term room rental (this might cost a bit, or you could ask for a mail pickup – students or the like might only want £20 a month or so or a nice friend – you’ll need to invent a new name and use the address. You haven’t done any thing wrong at this point, except become an AKA Mickey Mouse.
- So the first step is to order a pre-paid credit card at one of the credit builder sites, usually free for a couple of months and then a fiver a month. If you’re going to try and live using these – you’ll need several – with the attendant costs. As they tend to have quite a lot of restrictions, although you could use one from abroad if required.
- The next thing you’ll have to do is visit the Post Office and put some cash on the prepayment credit card, say £100 for starters – no ID is required!
- Once you’ve done that get a burner phone – there’s lots of second hand ones on market stalls etc.
- Then go to someone like Vodafone and order a Sim only deal using the credit card and now you exist.
- So for not very much, probably less than £20 a month you can establish an other identity.
What use is it, not really sure – you can exist as some one else, If you chose the rental option – which is a lot more expensive. You could actually be two people, if you paid the rent in cash and picked up the other bills like the council tax and the utilities. you could actually create an other identity. All you’d actually have to do is pay the bills, not cheap I know – but you could quite easily become some one else. As an example once you have a utility bill you can then get other things that prove you are who you’re not!
So you haven’t disappeared, you’ve just morphed into someone else – who’d probably lived abroad for a while.
