All the people.
All the people.

This is a bit of a departure from my usual rambles, I just feel that I want to say my piece about the whole remembrance process. It’s not a complaint or anything like that, I’m all in favour of the respect that we should show. I hold these people in the highest possible esteem, I think that we should do more for them than we do.

So here we are 11/11, the media is full of the remembrance activities. There are no veterans of the first world war still alive, there are not many left from the second world war either. But time moves on, time bought and paid for by these people. People from all walks of life who did the right thing, whatever they could do to contribute.

Strange really, these young men and women from a bygone era delivered so much to us and most people can’t even be bothered to think about them for two minutes. How strange and disrespectful it must seem to the ever decreasing group of survivors of the second world war. Still there will be a new generation on the way who will have no concept of what these people went through, save what they see in video games and on the media that they all seem so addicted to.

So when every one has gone west, there will be a precious few to actually remember what this was all about. Even the people who knew the people that participated in these world defining events are going west, the memories of the events will follow into the sunset – all that will stay behind will be the petty disputes kept alive by people who can see some type of personal gain. One doesn’t have to go far to see it, have a look at recent history and remember that 100 years ago a single assassins bullet started a chain of events that started the war to end all wars. That and the posturing of politicians that knew someone else would be dodging the bullets, while they made decisions that today seem quite banal.
