It’s only a couple of weeks to go for this project and as I’ve been really derelict with posting to this blog, I have decided to correct the latter and update you on the progress of the former. So we are now only two weeks away from leaving the old data centre and arriving in the new one, I don’t have a picture of the new one – but by all accounts the old one looks similar to the picture.
In the last week some additional things have come to light, these have had to be incorporated at fairly short notice. There was the 2.8Tb document imaging system, seems that it was just forgotten about and there is the 2Tb set of user profiles spread across a dozen servers that somehow have to be made to fit on an 800Gb drive on a single server. Pretty sure that there will be someone who’ll have an idea of how to do that – I can tell you that as these are Windows servers it wont be me.
The project has been very interesting from an onlookers perspective, it seems that the project is shambolic and it is! However when the cut over comes I’m sure that it will be a success by the accepted standards of this customer, after all the customer seems to think that an $8 Billion loss is a pretty fair trading year. Still I shouldn’t grumble about these things as they are paying me, it’s nothing like as much fun as the last place I was at – but it pays the bills.
As far as the blog posts go, I tend to try to capture the more humerus incidents for the blog. But these have been very infrequent during this contract, in actual fact they have been almost nonexistent. There has been nothing to laugh about for over two months now, well other than the ineptitude of some of the people that I work with – you know the square peg and round hole syndrome. But Hey Ho, there’s only a couple of weeks still to go and then it will be onward to something else.
