Ho! Ho! £+({ing Ho!

It’s early in 2012 and already the dissent has set in, back in the office for the first time yesterday and the problems that were expected didn’t manifest themselves at all. It looked like it might be a pretty good start to the year for about the first four hours, then someone somewhere pushed the reality button and it all turned to a pile of some thing that the poo poo pixies would leave on your desk.

Why did things change? Well I’m not really sure, the work I was doing went really well and the mood in the office was pretty upbeat but I still managed to leave the office feeling very pissed off. One of the things that started it all off was the request, for a file transfer between two virtual servers in the same frame. This would have to go via an other server that was 506 miles away, as calculated using a great circle route (the shortest way between two places on the surface of the earth). A round trip of over a thousand miles for the data, when the virtual servers are physically in the same box – how cool is that?

However I didn’t get upset with the request, I just made the change and got on with my day. The next thing that came along was a request for some information, that’s easy I thought to myself. After three “that’s not what I really wanted” responses I issued a detailed and lengthy request for an email detailing the requirements, only to be told that the information wasn’t required any more – not that that got me going either. I just went on to my next task and whistled always look on the bright side of life!

I tried to get through the rest of the day just clearing down the jobs that seemed to get postponed because there is always something a little more interesting to do, but there were quite a few interruptions that kept moving the objectives further and further away. Eventually I decided that enough was enough, someone had let the Muppets and Morons loose and had paid them all money to come and wind me up – so I just went home to think up some new ways of causing them all to suffer a slow and painful death!
