It’s now Friday and yesterdays Disaster Rehearsal that was carried out yesterday (amazing coincidence) seemed to go well, we’ve managed to implement several of the applications in the new location – although the final test results aren’t in yet it looks like they will be OK. Our European colleagues have been over for an other jolly and there has been some progress made, in fact things are now starting to move at quite a pace. We have just about nine months to complete this migration, this will mean that we will have to be looking at migrating on average one environment a day for the rest of the year. The test and development environments should be pretty straight forward, but the production environments will almost all have to be done at weekends. This presents the usual resourcing problems, but the problems will become more obvious as we move into the holiday periods of Easter and the Summer.
The Data Center Move (II)
I’ll be much more at ease with this project once we have some live applications in the new European Data Center, this will give the Muppets some confidence. And, although I’m sure that it will throw up some interesting problems. These I’m sure will be resolved as they become apparent, still it could make for some interesting blog posts. And if nothing else, I’m getting a grounding in European politics, I often wondered what MEP’s did – and now I know!
So later today when I’m in the office, I’ll be in touch with some of the team to find out how it really went and gathering what information I can for the documentation that will be needed.
