The User Strikes Back!

Today was just one of those days, full of interesting questions like “Are you busy?” Now normally my response would have been “Of course not – what do you need me to do?”, however it’s been bloody manic in the office with servers getting thrown in all over the place. As a result the responses tend to be a little less cordial than this,  but with my usual aplomb I managed a civil answer. The project is moving forward and is providing some excellent experience, however it is getting more difficult to deal with the project people – they seem to have the knack of asking questions that result in you gawping in incredulity. Then shaking with rage, finally leaving you with some desparate feeling that you want to choke the living shit out of someone – usually one of the project people. By way of explanation I’d say that the project was rushed, however there were some decisions made that would determine certain fundamentals. These were pretty basic, an application would reside in a container or an LDOM, the install procedures would be documented, there would be a minimal amount of liaison between the business and the systems admins – I’m sure that you know the stuff that I mean. Now here we are just a couple of weeks into the project and the lies are starting to surface, one application per container – no can’t do that as it won’t look the same as a domain. This comment from Miss Piggy Galore – but she doesn’t look so good!

The snow has continued to fall and the temperature has continued to fall, not sure that this will end well at all. With that in mind I’ve decided to head up the road tomorrow, I’ve just spoken to the wife and there is around 18″ of snow in the driveway. It would seem that it is difficult to get in and out of where I live in a 4X4, but I live in hope that Global warming will kick in and it will all have been a nightmare. I’m still enjoying the job despite the moans, but it’s not getting any easier to deal with the crap.

However on a brighter side, I was in the Leeds office today and met one of the people from an other office – he was quite nice to me telling me that even although I used to give him a lot of grief when he deleted files or lost his password or locked his account. The response that we gave him was much better than the Muppets that he has to deal with now, it seems he will get his files back between christmas and new year – about the same time I’ll lose my hangover then!

I try to be as patient as I can, but as I’m sure that you’re aware this isn’t so easy. And when people come over and ask stupid questions it isn’t so easy to work out if they are mocking you, well they probably are taking some pee – but then who cares really.
